Caring for Your New Laptop Computer Bag

Proper care of your new laptop bag will give you many years of beauty and use in return.

Most leather designer bags are not treated. This allows the bags to age gracefully and with the character expected from an authentic designer bag, making them distinct and unique. The very first thing you should do, if your bag is genuine leather, is treat your laptop case with a leather protector to prevent any stains from setting in. This step is not necessary for faux leather or suede bags.

1. Look after your bag and store it in its dust bag cover, if it came with one, or use a natural fibre soft pillowslip.

2. Handle your bag, especially lighter-colored bags, with clean hands.

3. Avoid handling your designer bag after applying beauty products, face foundations or hand creams.

4. If the weather is really bad and/or rain is expected, consider using a less special purse for the day.

5. Be careful when you visit a hairdresser with your bag, as hair products can easily splash onto bags left on the floor at your feet. Clippings of chemically treated hair can land on the bag and leave marks.

6. When carrying a light-colored bag, consider using pencils rather than pens as they can be very difficult to remove. Don't use your bag as a resting place to write notes. Pointed pens can leave impression marks through paper rested on firm leathers.

7. If your bag has a chain handle, store the chain inside the bag to avoid scratching the outside leather.

8. For storage, use bubble wrap to stuff your bags as it does not attract moths in the same way as tissue paper does.

9. Avoid taking your special bag to the supermarket! Carts can scratch your leather bag and mark it permanently, as can spillages from yogurts, cream, dips, squashy fruit, milk and even leaking cleaning products.

10. For long term storage, undo strap buckles so that impressions are not created. Then, if you wish to wear the strap across the body, messenger style, and need maximum strap length or need to shorten it to wear underarm style at a later date, this unbuckling of the straps before storage will stop areas becoming impressed and unattractive.

Here are some helpful tips worth trying if your designer bag becomes stained or dirty:

Classic Nylon Bags

A damp cloth and mild soap such as ivory or woolite should work to remove most dirt and stains. Once the dirt has been lifted, be sure to wipe down the entire bag to avoid leaving water spots on the bag.

Fabric Bags

Each fabric used in authentic designer bags is carefully selected for its' color, texture, durability, and beauty. Please try to treat them with care to extend the life of your bag. We recommend warm water and mild soap on a clean cloth for removing most common stains. Be certain to thoroughly test an inconspicuous area prior to actual stain removal to avoid uncontrollable variations in material reaction.

Leather Bags

Leather used to make your bag is carefully selected from the top tanneries. You should treat your bag immediately with a leather protector to prevent stains from setting in. However, even with the best care, at some point you are likely to leave a mark or stain on your bag.

If your bag is tanned and pigmented, you can try to wipe the stain with a soft damp cloth. If this doesn't work, try a leather cleaner specifically made for the type of leather you have. Follow the directions carefully! Once the spot has been removed, it is a good idea to re-condition the leather to restore the natural luster of your bag. As always, test a leather product in an inconspicuous spot before applying to your entire bag.

If the leather has become discolored, there are leather products on the market that can help restore color. Try to match the product as close as possible to the natural color of your bag. If none of this works or you are just not sure, we would recommend you take it to a professional leather cleaner who will have the expertise to remove the stain.
